In need of a new car soonish as I have an itch to scratch and really want a new shape Civic, I've seen a fair few 2.2 diesels now around the 5k mark with around 90k miles, test driven a bunch and I know it's what I want.

Could anyone advise any niggles that these engines might have or possible money pit examples I can avoid?

Car will be well used as I work away nights so I'll have it then and in the daytime my partner will use it for work so it'll be kept busy!

I bought my 8th Gen 2.2 Civic around 3 years ago for £6500. It had 97K on the odo.
(touches wood) still running sweet.

Things to check on a test drive
1: Clutch (Make SURE it doesn't slip)
2: Wipers (The grease in the wiper motor gets on the contacts which makes the wipers do funny things)
3: Usual general stuff (no milky white stuff on the dipstick etc)

Oh.. Yes I could've haggled for money off But I said to the bloke.. "Make sure it's pukka and I'll pay what you're asking and wont trouble you with silly niggles".

Jobs still a good un

Fair enough it's going to be used a lot but for what sort of journeys? If it's short and repetitive the the DPF won't ever recycle and you could end up paying a fortune. It will need a 20 mile run to get up to full temp regularly. How far is the commute?

No DPF on Civics

I do four mile runs to work and it's fully warmed up just the same as my petrol one used to be.

It's called a Thermostat !!

Just the responses I wanted :)

There's a 2.2 type S GT with loads of toys near me for 5k with something like 95k on the clock, I'll have a nose around it tomorrow and see
