OK, so end of September apparently we go live for Infinity (40MB/8MB - sounds nice).
Anyway, I hear that this does require an engineer to come out and do some work, I believe it's a faceplate change?

OK, so our master BT socket (as far as I know) is downstairs.
Our Broadband is on a secondary socket upstairs.
Does the "infinity faceplate" need to be on the master socket?
Or is a new faceplate installed on both sockets?
Or am I talking complete and utter rubbish?

If anyone can decypher what it is I'm trying to say - please respond :)

On the master socket which you have downstairs, they will install a new faceplate. HOWEVER, you can convert any socket connected from the master socket into a new master socket(not a secondary extension however).

So from the master socket, they change the faceplate and then they either run a data extension cable from the master socket or hook up the modem directly onto the new faceplate. For example, my main PC is in my bedroom upstairs so I wanted to have the router in my room, so the engineer ran a data extension cable from the master socket into my room, from which he hooked up the white modem and BT Home Hub 3.

In your situation, if your secondary plate upstairs is coming directly from the master socket downstairs then I don't see a problem with converting the upstairs socket into a master one, then there'd be no need to run a data extension cable.

Hope that makes sense :D

how did the engineer run the extension cable ?

No way are they drilling holes through my walls.

From the master socket along the skirting along the side of the stairs, over the skirting and then drilled a small hole in the corner to feed it through into my room. I gotta admit it was done very professionally; the only other option was to open the carpet and feed the cable through there but more risk involved so I told the engineer not to.

Will take pics tomorrow to show you exactly how it's been done as an example
