Quick build question - bits don't fit

I'm just putting all my bits together in my new setup but I've got a problem, so I've made a genius diagram:

What I want to do is have the fan mounted where the red squiggle is, blowing across the heatsink towards the back of the case. My RAM is in slots 1 and 2. However, with the RAM in those slots the fan does not fit on the side of the heatsink. So I can see two options:

- Move the fane to the other side of the heatsink (green squiggle) pulling air from the heatsink and blowing it out the back. Don't think this will be as effective as if it were on the other side.

- Move the RAM to slots 3 and 4. Not sure if this will work ok as mobo manual 'suggests' to put it in slots 1 and 2.

What should I do?
Thanks.

Okay looking at the manual for the Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H it seems channel 0 is slots 1 and 3, reading from left to right. It may work in channel 1 in slots 2 and 4. However I have had it in the past where the board requires it in channel 0.

Best way would be to stick it in channel 1 (2&4) and find out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks greywolf, and your are correct with the motherboard. But this is what confused me as I thought it should be in channels, e.g. slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 as you say, but the manual says:
"If two memory modules are to be installed, it is recommended that you install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 sockets"

The slots are coloured such that slots 1 and 2 are blue, and 3 and 4 are white, which seems to indicate to me you should put modules in matching colours (e.g. 1 and 2).

Even if it will work in 2 and 4 it might still be a close call with the fan being very close to the ram.

Thanks again.

Page 16 on the link it states 1 & 3 for channel 0 and 2 & 4 for channel 1.

The colour coding does seem a little silly.

Yea my quote was taken from just under the table on the right on page 16. Seems to contradict itself, and doesn;t look like I'm the only one: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/930609-solved-can-dual-channel-memory.html.
Only problem was he never actually said what his final slot configuration was!!

No it doesn't.

Slot 1 - Channel 0 - Blue
Slot 2 - Channel 1 - Blue
Slot 3 - Channel 0 - White
Slot 4 - Channel 1 - White

With 2 modules you want 1 Module on each channel (Dual channel).

So either use both the blues (Slots 1&2, Channels 0&1), or both the whites (Slots 3&4, Channels 0&1).

Thanks for all the help greywolf. Just to let you and anyone else who may happen to get stuck with this, I put the RAM in slots 3 and 4 and everything seems to be running fine. Snapshot of cpuz:

Showing it's running in dual mode with the right amount of ram and the right timings (7-7-7-20). Not sure what the other info is about but that will be fine for now!
