Hi,

I am looking at buying a 4 channel amp and sub. With this I will be amping up my front comps, now do people know what extra wires i need to wire up over just a simple amp/sub setup?

So you'll be running the sub and front comps off one amp?

Just run one set of RCA's from the HU's main pre-out (not sub out) and use the HP/LP filters on the amp to dictate which outputs get what frequencies.

Then, as Mark has said, speaker cables from the amp to the front doors.

Yea thats another way of doing it, personally i like the extra control of a sub pre out, gives me that extra bit of fiddle scope case i don't wanna goto the boot just to alter the bass level or crossover point etc.

Makes tuning so easy, i've got mine setup just right really enjoying the install now, i used to have some spray on Dynamat but they don't seem to sell that anymore.

Have you used / read about that paint on sound damping stuff andy, its not cheap but looks good, any news / reviews?

Yup will be running it all off the 1 amp. :) Also from what I can tell my HU has support for direct sub control.

Read quite a bit about it. The guys on TalkAudio can't get enough of it.

Personally, I'm not that keen. Just seems like it's a hell of a lot of hassle and could get very messy having to apply 3 or 4 coats.

I might end up getting a small tub. Coat of sludge, followed by some matting, and then another coat of sludge on top. Not like I'm going to be running some crazy setup anytime soon :)

Cheers Andy, i might give it a go, i want something to change the resonance frequency of the panels slightly but not add loads of weight!

I think he already has a sub/amp setup, he's just looking to upgrade and was asking what extra cables would need to be added.

Dan, what sub/amp are you looking at? I'd look into the JBL 75.4. Excellent value for money. I've got a 601.1 on order :D

Im looking at a JBL 75.4 with the JBL 12" GTO, with wiring and box should be ~£140.

Will improve my bassless setup of alpine front comps on HU.

Once I go home at christmas I will make a custom sub box for my car so it doesn't take much space. Plus I can get the correct volume box for it, will make a sealed one as it is much easier. The stock box is only 1cu.ft volume, for 12" I need between 2 and 3cu.ft. One good thing is that I can get all the supplies cheap from work, so won't cost much to make. Now just looking for a sub grill for it that isn't flashy and looks good.
