Hey guys, a friend of mine is after the fastest possible SSD he can get for his system. this is his motherboard

He was linking me NVME drives that i could outright say would not work but i was curious about these styles of pci e drives. Theoretically, would this be compatible with his motherboard? Just double checking as i can't see any reason it would not work but don't want to tell him to spend his money

PS I Know that it's not a great price investment and that a normal SSD would be just fine but he is adamant so i can't be bothered to argue him down to a slightly slower drive for 1/3 the cost.

Yep, that HyperX Predator 240GB will work with his motherboard but it'll have to be either that or a GPU. It'll still get roughly double the speeds of say an 850 providing it works at its highest speed but it's not worth the cost in my eyes.

No it wont work in the pcie 1 slots only in the gpu slot but if you have a gpu then your stuck , its not gauranteed to boot from that drive on older motherboards.

I would just get a SSD

Yeah, it's not going to work unless you plug it into the PCIE 16x slot, but presumably your friend has a graphics card in that slot.

If you're hell bent on keeping the mobo and CPU, the fastest you'll get is a SATA3 SSD

Thanks for this guys, i managed to convince him into getting a 500GB normal SSD and a 2TB hdd to replace his old drive.

glad i double checked now :)
