Any glaring errors in this build? I'll be putting this lot in an old Coolermaters CM690 case, keeping my old HDD and DVDrw:

I've already gone about £30 over budget with this, so I can't spend anymore.
 
 
The Heatsink comes with thermal paste so you shouldn't need that. Also do you need the cleaner ? You won't need it if you are just fitting the new cpu and heatsink.

Swapped the cpu and motherboard to a bundle, as it saves a bit of money that way. The i5 4690K will allow you to overclock.

Swapped the GTX 760 for a GTX 770

Changed the Samsung SSD to a 256GB Crucial MX100

The 550W psu is fine for a single gpu. The NZXT is basically the same as the Superflower Golden Green, as it is made by Superflower.

If you go to the link below, you can claim back £17.50 off the board/cpu bundle, which will bring the total to around £721.

You could save a bit more by dropping the fans, and maybe trying the stock fans ? Or just buy some cheaper fans ?
 
im gonna go out on a limb here and say: what a waste of money on the fans and random stuff.
you're spending >£60 on fans when that could go into other things like a better gpu etc =x
 
Owh, you're going to give me a headache now :)

I just wanted to know if these bits will go together, if there was anything there that was definitely not compatible with the rest of the build.

I've looked here and there and read this and that for a couple of months now and I've kinda got reasons why I've chosen all those bits... really haven't got the energy to start rethinking again... and red bits? They'll just attract the heat LOL (<< obviously a joke guys :) )

Buying the bundle will save you money and at the moment Gigabyte and Asus are giving cash back of around £17.50.
The budge is the K series CPU so you can overclock and have faster memory and faster GPU'S.
 
Heh a pc without fans Tamzzy? Do I blow on it?

The only random thing there is me :)

My fans were dirt cheap at the time 5 years ago and next door can hear them now (yes, I've cleaned and oiled numerous times). With the new fans 2 of the 140's will be side of case inwards flow and I'll definitely need a couple of filters for these to keep the dust out, one 120 will be inwards too at the front but my case already has a good filter there (I also think Be-Quiet's are the best value for money regarding noise and performance).
I see a lot of people say that the thermal paste that comes with units isn't really any good, even Arctic Cooling units, and if I want the best for the long term I should use some top notch paste like the MX-2 (maybe if someone could confirm this as I wouldn't mind saving the £14 on cleaner and paste, but not to spend it elsewhere)
I'll need a bay converter or I won't have anywhere to put my SSD and the splitter is needed because the Z97-A has 5 headers for fans (because one of their listed headers is for the cpu fan) and I'll have 6 on my case.
 
Hold on.

You can get a case with fans and filters and the correct drive bays for the same as buying separate fans/filters/drive bay adapter.

I see where you're coming from and just had a look at the bundles. Would have gone for an Asus one but they only have the Z97-K and that would be a wiring nightmare for an air cooled system (same I think for the Gigabyte bundle).

I hope I don't get shot for this but I'm not into overclocking. It's probably all very simple but I just want my new system to tick along nicely for another 5 years. Then I'll probably have to go Broadwell and double my memory and maybe a new gpu, but till then I think what I've chosen will do the job nicely (this is going to be a VAST improvement on what I have right now).

I'm really asking if there is anything major I have overlooked.
 
Sorry Stulid, I can't go with that, only the £60 Corsair is cheaper than the £65 I'll spend and it only has two fans and wouldn't keep Cat from Red Dwarf cool.

compared to your original spec, you get
1) overclockable cpu
2) 550w psu - more than sufficient for a single gpu rig. 650w is in the neither-here-nor-there region - far too much for a single gpu rig, and not enough for a dual gpu rig.
3) 256gb ssd instead of a 128gb ssd
4) better heatsink
5) new case with usb3 and 2 fans (and added a 3rd one separately)
6) 280x is a better gpu compared to the nvidia 760

Hi, that's good to know I'm not putting anything hot in, but I'd still need the two Silverstone filters because of the gaping holes in the side (pretty dusty environment), that's £12. The only drawback on my case is the 2 front USB's are not 3.0 (oh and the lack of 2.5 bays, but not a big issue), with the mobo the rear ones will be 3.0, so it's there if I need it.

I am starting to get all confused again though... :D

1) Not interested in overclocking.
2) If in future I get Broadwell, double the ram, better gpu, I think I might need 650.
3) I really really don't see me needing 256gb on SSD, I'm a two game player, really, I can't even see myself getting anywhere near filling a 120. I have a 500gb HDD for storage.
4) With my sys, I won't need a better heatsink.
5) Looks like my case is fine and with total enclosure and maximum quiet air flow.
6) I really could do with Shadowplay.

Maybe you are just helping me to convince myself? :)

I believe AMD have "GameDVR" which is like Shadowplay for AMD and is apparently quite good! It is definitely a better GPU than the 760
