Just goes to show how a quick ten minute clean and application of AS5 goes some way to improving temps.

I've got a 5850 with stock cooler @ at 850/1100 and my idle temps were in the region of 60 degrees, now it is reading 51. Still seems high maybe? It is quite warm in here though.

I've got a small funky case (reasonable airflow however) and I did have about half the fan blocked by the nearest pci card - but I couldn't see a huge difference by removing this. I think it's more the application of AS5 and a quick dust. What do you think?

I've got a Silverstonetek matx case with exhaust vents on the side, and an intake and exhaust 80mm fan combination above the cards on a support. There's reasonable airflow all things considered. However, I think part of my original problem was the fact I had covered over almost half of the 5850 fan shroud with a pci x-fi. Stupid design! So I'm going to sell the x-fi and purchase a Xonar pcie I think (fancy a change). Then I would have killed two birds with one stone.

I'm not sure what 5850 cooler to go for though. I fancy that Zalman, but i really want something that offers me near silence (well, best of both worlds really) - so maybe the AC is the way to go?

This morninig is better - 49 idle at the mo, but the system has not been on that long. Either way, I ordered another cooler for it, so things will improve. I just hope it isn't any louder!
