I often fancy having rice but the types I'm currently using (basmati and brown) take 20/30 minutes to cook. Are there any types of rice that can be cooked in ten minutes (I'm not interested in that pre/partially cooked stuff)?

Yeah you need quick cooking rice. Do you look at the rice when you go to the supermarket?

Taken from my Taiwanese wife 1 cup of rice ,1.5 cups of water, 3 mins in microwave turn rice over repeat until 9 mins in micro has been reached good rice everytime :-)

If you want to make fried rice do the same but cool the rice down as quickly and then fry it :-p

Do you know what type of rice she's using?

Rice does not take 30 mins to cook! more like 15 tops.

I just follow the instructions on the packet. Brown rice takes 30-35 minutes and basmati takes 20-25 minutes.

No basmati I've ever bought says it takes 20-25 minutes.
1 cup of rice, 2 cups of water. Turn hob onto medium, lid on, bring to boil and 12 minutes later - perfect rice. Don't open the pan until it's done.

But please, let's not have another rice cooking thread!
