dunno...

one is 3.40 GHZ x4 and one is 2.80 GHZ X6

X6 is £10 more.. but effecitvely for gaming its slower.

i could have course overclock, ive never done it but wont that make the cpu run faster perminently as opposed to turbo when it needs too?

other point is, with my 890GX board i could (hopefully) get a proper 6 core (no offence) in a year of so`s time

desicions.. help me make it. im buying tonight so give me some good gaming advise.

the resolution i play at is 2048 x 1152P
graphics card is 5850

also how do i know if i get the 125W design (not that it matters too much)

I would say go for the x4 BE unless you do more multi tasking than gaming.

Or go for the x2 555BE and unlock to a tri or quad if you want to save some pennies. :)

Get the 6 Core, why would you consider the 4 core?

because i game, and to me 3.4GHZ 'speed' is faster than 2.8GHZon 6 cores? am i missing something, im not likely to overclock if im honest, the other thing my pc doubles as is internet machine and ocassional vpn to work.. it has to be reliable and fairly quiet / cool so overclocking a 6 core to 3.4ghz to match would make it hotter? or would remove any steping down to save power and heat

tell me im wrong on this and i can change my x4 for an x6 for £10

For the sake of 2 cores for a tenner, I know where my money would go:p

but would it be actually any faster ? unless i play around with overclocking it wont will it

Slighly slower without overclocking, why not overclock it? Get the most out of your purchase;)

But in encoding videos ect., 6 cores would win.

Spose the lesser CPU might be best here :O

^ dont say lesser !! that hurts my man pride

right so 6 core is more right? lol ;)

i suppose i could overclock slightly but does it mean that the system runs full GHZ all the time, at the moment on my intel it is a 2.66GHZ chip but on hardware info i can see it run 1.99GHZ when doing nothing hence saving money and reducing heat + increasing lifespan etc..

need to know as im hovering on buy button

most games use all the cores anyway so why is it slower? when im gaming if i leave task manager open and alt+tab one core is usually around 80% and the other 5 are hovering around 20-30%

dont forget if an application cant use all 6 cores then the cpu can boost 3 cores upto 3.3ghz

for the sake of 10 quid why not get a 1055t?

I would get the 965 be if your primary use is gaming. Can also overclock it very well indeed.

well i agree.. but i just read

"The Phenom II X6 1055T on the other hand can boost itself from 2.80GHz all the way to 3.30GHz, which is a 500MHz frequency jump"

does this mean under load the 1055T is only 100MHZ slower than the X4 BE ?

If you do intend to overclock you will need a half decent cpu cooler.

The x6 overclocked is a bit more power hungry, check out the Phenom II and the Phenom x6 threads for temps, overclocking etc.

Go for this ram incase you do overclock in the future.

or check the QVL on the gigabyte website.

whats the QVL ?

also why wont 1333MHZ be enough (like the stuff i linked earlier)

^ this is 1600mhz and i want to keep the theme as blue as possible, will this be as good

The Phenom II X4 965BE will be faster in the games which don't scale well with cores. OTH,the Phenom II X6 1055T will probably be faster in games which scale well with more cores and AFAIK more games will start to do this in the future.

but by that token.. if the game doesnt scale well with cores, cant the cpu counteract this and boost to 3.30GHZ?

dont mean to sound awkard im on a fast learning curve here just before i buy will 1333mhz be good enough for a 1055T

the gigabyte board supports DDR3 1866(OC)/1333/1066 MHz memory modules, doesnt mention 1600ghz though

Hey phill1978,

what games do you play? RTS or FPS or both? . . name some titles please! :)

I don't think there will be a lot of difference between CPU's while gaming at 2048 x 1152P as the bottleneck will surely be the GPU?

Why are you in a rush to order tonight? . . . can't you cut yourself some slack to get the research done for your new uBer build? :D

5850 wont work in my current build, if i get the new system setup i can get myself up and running finally bite the bullet (as the missus has said yes and she might change her mind ;) and i can test if my GPU is broken or not :(

i guess saphire 5850`s dont like G33 pcie- 1.0 spec sob
