AMD xp1900+ with the sock cooler. On boot it's registering 52 degrees (case is 33). Is that bad?

With a case temp of 33, no I wouldn't consider it to be bad.
I'd only start worrying once it hits the 70 mark.

XP processors are fine at much higher temps than that. I had one a while ago that must have been idling at about 70C for ages (I found randomly one day that the fan had all but stopped working). I didn't monitor it really and had no cause to think that it was getting hot - everything was working perfectly normally. I only realised when cleaning the case out.
So basically, any instability won't be because of this. Have a look in other areas.
