hi,

would a P55 board (such as the msi GD80) support 2 x full 16 lanes for cross fire ? i know it has 2 x 16 lanes but in cross fire do the 1566/P55 boards go to 1 x 16 and 1 x 8 or 2 x 8

any help appreciated, looking to crossfire a 5850 in future and want to know if a p55 board will be limited in that way wether its noticeble or not.

cheers

'Rather than opting for just two PCIe slots on the P55-GD80, MSI have incorporated three slots which are CrossfireX and SLI capable but when used in multi GPU format the speeds drop from the PCIe 2.0 16x standard to 8x,8x and 4x. Also worthy of note is that MSI have not opted to go with the infamous Marvel controller supporting 6G, instead, MSI have incorporated the tried and tested stack of Intel and JMicron controllers for the 9 available SATA ports.'

i think its only i7 that does all x16?

thanks breadturbo

would there be a noticeble drop on 2 x 5850`s ? even if both were over clocked when running only 8x 8x

i think il have to go with the gigabyte x58 board which is a shame as the P55 GD80 is a really smart and well made board :(

perhaps i shall wait for msi to do the same board but in x58 style
