I saw DoW2 and The new Chaos Rising version on offer on Steam and went for it but a mate of mine is thinking of just getting the Chaos Rising version as its available from the tree people at about £9! (makes the £20 I just paid for both look not such a great deal!)

My question is, will we still be able to play on the multiplayer together or will his version lack something that I have?

Thanks......

I believe DoW2 is Steamworks anyway? So it'll have to be registered to Steam no matter what.

In terms of the versions, there's no difference.

Chaos Rising needs Dawn of War 2 to play though, so he'll need both as well.

Unless I've got the wrong end here and he already has DOW2 and wondering if a non steam purchase will work with yours.

According to the version you can buy online, Chaos Rising doesnt need the original DoW2 to run!?!?!?

So judging by the responses, the only thing that my mate will be lacking is the single player game from the original!?!?

There does seem to be a lot of conflicting information on it, some places state you need the original to play it, others you don't. If it's the later, then you can still play with your mate, but he wouldn't have access to the content from DOW2, campaign, maybe certain races, maps etc.

From a second look online it does seem to be a standalone expansion, so should be okay.
