Hi Folk,
Ive been sitting in crappy garden today thinking about projects.
I think I want to a deck at the far end of it, just to give us a space to sit when the summer rolls around (yeah right).
Basically, question is that floor is uneven, its a mix of concrete and soil and the soil is the higher part, the deck itself will be flat, but front part of the deck will have longer posts and will sit on concrete flooring. Both Soil and Concrete portions are fairly level. Am I right in thinking that I can construct the outer frame using joists and use legs in the corners to get the basic height right? the legs will be around 25 CM's on the concrete portion to keep the deck flat.
The legs that would sit on the concrete, do these need to be fixed to the floor? From what I have read the legs/posts in the soil will need to be postcreted in? oR can they sit on old slabs I have lying around?
Also what size of joist should I use? The deck is roughly 4.5m square, Ive been offered 4.8 m joist (4"*2") for £8.50, and 6"*2" for £12.50, im on a budget so it would be nice to shave a few quid off! Out of interest could the outer frame be 6*2 and the inner joists be 4*2? or is that just a stupid idea![Stick Out Tongue :p :p](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/tongue.gif)
Lastly Ive been quoted £8.50 for the deck boards, that's for a 4.8m length and is a delivered price.
Any advice greatfully received, and don't be shy in telling my I haven't got a clue.
