Quick DIY / door question . . . . .

Hi All

I am just about to replace all the brass handles in my house with chrome/stain ones. I am about to order the door handles, but am a bit confused about exactly what to order. I want to replace the pieces outlined 1 and 2 in the pics below, but not sure exactly what to look for ask for , or do they come included with all door handles ?

The handles won't come with the latch part, you'll need to get that separately. Have a look on the Screwfix website for some ideas of styles and parts.

The hole may be in a different place if the doors are old.
Should be fine though.

You generally buy the door handles and then buy the latch / sash part seperatly.
You can also get them in a pack together.

Part 1 is called a Tubular Latch

They do sell everything as a whole set sometimes....inc latches

Everthing inc handles...handle bar...latches screws etc...you just supply the labour.

Take a latch out and take it with you...you gonna have to take it out anyway. The latch, backplates and fixings/screws all come in a packet.

You'll need to measure from the edge of the door to the center of the latch (where the square bar goes through for the handles. You'll have to remove the handle for this.

Be wary of cheap handle sets with latches included as they are usually poor quality and will stop latching before long.

So basically, I need to buy the item below ( or something similar ) - which will include the pieces 1+2 in my photos. Then I just buy the handle, and it should all fit together ?

Take one apart completely and take the bits to a good old fashion hardware shop to sort yourself out.

Hi All

Next question - have got all the normal locks sorted, but am stuck when it comes to the bathroom look . I have a pic below !

What is the bit with the red arrows pointing to it called ? And what exactly should I buy ? I know one is the end plate thingie, but what is the inside bit ? Any links would be appreciated . . . . thanks !

Just look through the sites you looked through earlier when looking for latches.

That is simply a latch with a lock on it. Google away, friend.
