I'm getting an AMD X2 3800+ at the end of the week. It'll be on a clean windows SP2 install, but what do I need to install to get the system running peak efficiency. I'm getting an x1800xt to go with it.

I heard there was a dual core windows driver, but can someone provide me with a link and what I need to get, as I dont wanna accidentally miss something out!

Thanks a lot guys,

Alex

Dont worry about it. You sometimes need to update your bios to allow dual core. Mine automatically installed the driver for dual core when it booted up. Just check in device manager that you have a dual core listed. Also in task manager (ctrl alt del) performance you should get a double screen side by side for each core use.

I'd like to know this as well (Opteron 170) as I didn't do squat so far? (seems to all be working fine?)

All that happened after I swapped out my 146 for a 170 was a little plug-n-play bubble as it installed support for the second core.

I seen posts saying you need a hot-fix for this and a patch for that etc

As far as I'm aware it's just NVIDIA that has dual core optimisations at the moment but no doubt ATI will have something in the pipeline.

what AMD driver is here for an Opteron 170?

WinXP?

Some (single thread) games get confused with dual cores leading to frame stutter and this'll cure that (in most cases). It also allows CnQ with dual cores.

Edit: There might be a Windows update that does the same thing as the X2 driver but it won't do any harm installing it.
