Just installed the Noctua NH-U12F and i noticed temps hadnt seem to of dropped from stock cooler (maybe i need to give more burn in time). I then played some BF2142, and when i finished i check the temps and it said 51c.... its never gone that high b4, even with the stock cooler. is it safe?

Im using Asus Probe that came with my mobo, and my cpu is overclocked to 3ghz. I have only raised the FSB and left all voltages at standard. Will just raising FSB still raise the temps that much?

Gonna try reapplying and reseating the heat sink, and ill follow the guide on applying TIM off the arctic silver site.

Thanks folks.

51c is fine for the C2D series, they're ok til about 65-70c. I'd download a program called Coretemp though, as this will give you a far more accurate temp reading than Asus probe will.

Your temps should drop off quite a bit from stock cooler, especially at idle. My e6600 at idle with stock cooler was 47 and with the Noctua is 35 (this was at stock speeds). If you have left voltages on the auto setting you might want to check what they are being set to. With my EVGA if i left voltages at auto and overclocked my cpu it seems to ramp it upto 1.42v. I have since dropped this down to 1.36 and have seen temps drop, this is running the e6600 @3.4 ghz.
Of course you load temps while playing BF2142 are well within acceptable limits.
