Quick eee PC 901 question..

Does the standard 20gb hard drive that comes with the Linux version 901 have a partition on it that is actually deletable?

I'm using fdisk at the moment and it shows there being two partitions, 4gb and 15gb, these aren't actually two physical drives are there?

Bit of a noob question I know

I think its one 4gb ssd and one 16gb ssd. dont quote me on that, as i don't own one but im sure i read it somewhere

If that's the case is there any problems on installing XP on the 4gb drive or is that not advisable for performance etc?

I can only seem to install XP on the 4gb hdd.

When I go through the Windows XP setup and try creating a partition on the 16gb drive it tells me that it's not a valid XP compatitable partition?

Any ideas?

I tried creating a fat32 partition using fdisk but Windows kicks up the same error..

The larger (16GB) SSD is not really suitable for Windows, mainly due to speed - painfully slow for OS installation

..that said, dunno why it won;t let you, as it should !

Seems that there are some spangly and affordable SSDs out there, Runcore is the brand

Are you sure it's the 4gb that isn't suitable for XP? As Ive installed XP on the 4gb twice now and have the clean install it takes over 2 minutes to open My Computer, IE, My documents etc, it's ridiculous.

Has anyone encountered any issues like this? Linux ran fine...

Iam sure the 4gb is the fast flash. and the 16gb is the slower flash memory...

Deffo is.....

I have noticed that there can be response issues too, but believe that they can be mitigated down.....for example, Asus supply a program to migrate Programs folder to D:, then there are things like removing Page File, reining in the amount of services running (nLite the install...) and more. I find that once up and running, the machine is usually pretty repsonsive, but I fear that my installation is a little clogged at the moment - gonna try again, fun is in the trying
