quick electrical question

Hi, I am just changing an old light socket over, the old one had a live and a common, but the new switch only has two lives.

Am i supposed to put the common in live 2?

thanks very much that one wired in and all working now

however, my next and last one to change is indeed a 2 switch dimmer.
That has two blocks, each with a l1, l2 and then an arrow with a squiggly line through it.

Do i need to do something different with that?
