Hey guys.

I've had to delete and renew an email address on out exchange 2007 server.

The email address is associated with a different AD account so when users go into outlook and put the address in the TO field it pops up with the right email but wrong AD so im telling them to delete manually. Although this got me thinking is there a way of doing it myself but for everyone on a whole?

Thanks.

Unfortunately it'll be cached (incorrectly) in their NK2 file. No way I know of to magically remove that, just a case of the user shift-deleting the entry when it pops up.

Alternatively, upgrade to Exchange 2010 which does away with the NK2 file for users with Outlook 2010 (I think 2007 maybe too).

It stores the cached addresses in the mailbox under Suggested Contacts, but you still need to do so the same thing to fix it by selecting the address and removing it from auto complete.

If you are moving a users email addresses from one user to another (presumably the old user is being removed in this process) then the generally accepted way to ensure delivery still works is to add the old users LegacyExchangeDN to the new users SMTP Addresses as an X500 address.

This should ensure that any users who email the old cached address get the mail delivered to the new user.

If you aren't deleting the old mailbox then simply setting up forwarding may be a better option until the mailbox is removed.
