If a motherboard has the undermentioned slots does that mean that there are 7 individual physical slots, or do some of them double up, if you see what I mean? Along the lines of a 1 x PCI slot doubles up as a PCI Slot..

PCI Slots: 2
16 x PCI Express Slots: 3
8 x PCI Express Slots: 0
1 x PCI Express Slots: 2

Based on the figures above in a normal rig, could I place a single graphics card in ONE of the 16 PCI Express slots, then place an adapter card and a sound card in the two PCI Slots (I need a spare slot for an adapter card because a virgin media surge knocked out the Ethernet Port on my existing motherboard and might do the same on a new rig - I have both of these cards in my existing rig)?

Thanx

pci are separate/different from pcie

if the adaptor card or sound is pcie then you can plug it in any of the pcie slots regardless of speed 8x/16x ect but you cant plug it into a pci slot as its different,it would need to be a pci sound or adaptor card
