Quick external HD question

Going to be getting a Mac Mini on Friday for various reasons but will any external HD work? Looking to just pop a HD into an exclosure and use it for backup or storing media on.

Yes. When you format it go for ExFAT if you want to use it with Windows too.

is it new ? if so it'll have USB 3 so get a USB 3 drive to enjoy the speed..
