Hey
So for reasons unknown, I've started FFX again. I was wondering what you guys think would be more efficient: Leveling all characters fairly equally, or focusing on 3 characters?

Depends on how much time you are willing to invest in the game again.

Because I myself can put the time into Final Fantasy games and I'm a grinding masochist anyways, I tend to make my characters as powerful and as early in the game as possible. Sure it may ruin and make make things too easy in later stages, but then thats how personally I play it.

So my own personal vote would go for equal. In the end it depends on you.

back in FFVIII I think the game levelled the enemies against Squall's level so you could either make it really easy and never use him or make it really hard and level him above everyone else.

I never bothered with FFX as I just got bored with it....so it might not work the same

Thats exactly how I play FF games, There are always points where leveling up is easy, so I spend more time there than most people would, then through the game you are always a level ahead..

It is very much worth keeping everybody leveled equally in FFX especially as there are a number of points where you can only use certain members of the party (the fight with the wyrm at bevelle for example).

Yeah back in the FFVII/FFVIII days, there were times where I would be really stupid and end up getting my main/favourite characters to the maximum level even on Disc 1.

For example, FFVII was easy cause once you get the Tiny Bronco and be able to travel around, you can find your way to the Mideel islands and grind on those massive Sandworm things on the beach areas of the map. I mean at that point in time of the game, I think those were the best monsters with the best EXP/AP etc that you could get. It totally ruins the game afterwards since it became such a breeze.

FFVIII made things really interesting due to the whole monsters leveling up on par with your highest leveled characters too. At points in later stages of the game especially on Disc 3 & 4, you could so screw yourself over but it does make for a great challenge though.

I never took it to max early on, just enough to give an edge and the occasional top up through the game.

FF XII is even easier to do this on with the bonus you get for continually killing the same kind of enemy over and over.

First time through I played only using Auron, Tidus and Yuna. Replaying it a second time I realised how stupid an idea that was, especially given how useful characters such as Lulu and Rikku are. Really made the game a whole lot easier utilising all characters.

Yeah FFXII was just ridiculously easy and if you were really high level early in the game, and then until way further ahead when you finally had all the gambits available, most of them just become obsolete since you never needed them anymore. Imagine the amount of time lost too, switching between zones and waiting for the load times.

overleveling is dull and grinding is dull! i do just enough to get me by. i always viewed the max levels (in ff games) were for all the secret bonus bosses and its wayyyyy overkill for the normal storyline.

Do what i did and power lvl Yuna until she is at least twice as hard as anyone else in the party. :D

If you want to max all the stats for every char though your in for a long slog. Think it took me somewhere in the region of 350+ hours in total for all characters >.<

But to beat some of the dark aeons and that other ultimate/omega/whatever.....you're going to need some really beefy characters....

I only ever bothered to kill the first dark aeon, and that was by paying YoJimbo to slice him in half :D

IIRC FF8 was the easiest to level your toons up to max (100?) as there was some kind of weird exp system whereby you got the same exp for killing a creature at level 99 as you got at level 2, so you could just grind on the same low level mobs...could be wrong tho as it was a long time ago. Anyone confirm?

FF8 was the first time the monsters also level up corresponding with your highest level characters. So yeah, you could just tediously grind on the same mobs all the time until they reach higher level along with you.
