just got pulled by the police for my front fogs been on......thing is that i didn't realise they are on and i showed the officer that i just had my headlights on from the switch, and to turn them on you pull it out slightly, and pull it out again further for rear fog...

thing is whist showing this to the officer it became apparent that the front fogs were always on when the headlights are on, luckily i didn't get a fine or anything but obviously want to sort it out again as it irritates me when people drive with there fogs on all the time and i didn't realise it was happening!

anyone have any idea how to fix this? is this a mod that a previous owner could have done?

What car do you have? The switching setup you describe would be illegal.

EDIT - are you absolutely sure it isn't just a multifunction switch? IE it clicks once for sidelights, then again for dipped headlamps, and pulls outwards in 2 stages for the front and rear fogs? And you're actually pulling it out slightly or the switch is broken?

I've not driven any recent SEATs but that sounds the most likely scenario to me.

Sounds like a broken switch mate. I'm sure my Ibiza FR was as you described, just pull out for front (i think mine was not independent though and turned on both rear and front, not 100% sure and i sold that car ages ago).

Its just a normal switch found on all seat/vw/audi's for the last 10 years or so!

If you pull it out the front fogs come on, pull it out another click and you get rears (only 1 stage if you dont have fronts)

Nothing broken about it, just stop pulling it out when you turn your lights on.

I was under the impression that he knows that and means that without pulling on it the fogs still come on with the headlights.

I thought it was the other way round? Pull out once for rears, and again for fronts?

My Leon Cupra TDI mk1 =

1 notch turn - sidelights
2 notch turn - main driving lights
1 pull- front fogs
2 pulls - rear fogs

only indication of fogs is when rear lights are on, on the instrument panel.

Perhaps its just how you turn your lights on? Its easy enought to turn and slightly pull...

Nope, fronts come on first. It's really annoying as the rears are supposed to be used when visibility is down to 100 yards and the fronts when visibility is down to the edge of your bonnet (or you really need to show the world what a w⚓ you are, which is the more common use).

My solution to the OPs problem would be to just remove the front foglight bulbs. They are not a legal requirement and are not checked at the MOT. At the very least do this until you can get the switch fixed.

a light should come on when either / both fogs are on on the actual switch, it did on my 2004 seat ibiza and does on my A3.

This, same on my Fabia. You should see some notification on the dash.

I got caught out by this once in my Mk2 Leon, i never use my fog lights and it was a pure accident, if you flick your lights on too quickly it can be easy to accidenly pull the switch out one step. Im constantly checking now as the sodding copper gave me a £40 fixed penalty, despite showing him how easy it was to turn them on without realising.

The picture lights up next to the switch but it's by your knee in the Leon and thus pretty much useless.
The one on the dash only comes on with the rears.
