Currently trying to decide on a new monitor (still), and having recently moved over to NVidia I've noticed there are a lot that are marked as Freesync but not G-Sync compatible. Should any adaptive sync monitor still support G-Sync, or so I really want to look for one marked as compatible to ensure I don't get issues?

Most adaptive sync monitors will work with G-Sync Compatible but only the ones marketed as compatible are guaranteed to give good performance/compatibility - ones without may exhibit flicker, lag or poor refresh ranges, etc. when you connect it up you will have to enable G-Sync as experimental or whatever the setting is.
Most monitors you can find reviews or end user posts whether they work well with G-Sync Compatible or not.

Get freesync + gsync compatible so u arent vendor locked in future.

What I would do, is decide on the particular monitor you want and then check the forums. I guarantee someone has tried all the different combinations! Most cards now work with most monitors, no matter what they are.
Certainly, I would no longer consider spending extra for G-Sync unless there was no alternative. I currently have a Freesync and a G-Sync and in practical terms there is absolutely no difference.
