Quick Guitar Hero question

My niece is mad about GH3 on the PS2 and has been playing non-stop for weeks now. For Christmas, her sister has bought her GH2.

Now will the GH3 guitar work with the GH2 game or will I have to end up bailing her out? Apparently it does on Xbox, but I can't find any info about PS2.
