Hi, I know a few of us here use Plex/XBMC or similar and hopefully one or other of you will be able to answer this.

I know I should just test this to confirm but both my Macs are currently ripping stuff and I'm going to bed!

Using Return of The Jedi as an example - how do I get it to include the 'default' subtitles in the finished movie? i.e the subs for everything that's *not* English - Jabba and other aliens.

Do I have to hunt through and find the correct track, or do I set it to 'auto select'? If I use the auto select option on my preset, will that just grab the appropriate, default subtitle track and do it right, as in use the same subs a UK DVD player would use without any interaction? And if there are no standard subtitles in the movie, it'd use no track or a blank track?

I just want to be sure, as I have some hardcore ripping to do and I would like to know it'll be right rather than have to check every movie over, and I'd like the option to be useable for every movie including those with no subtitles of this sort, so I don't have to remember which to use it on.

Longwinded explanation but I can't explain it any more succinctly! Thanks :)

p.s I did google and all I found was people having trouble with subtitles, couldn't find this question being asked which surprised me.

Edit: Should be in software. Berk. Sorry :o

If you are using Plex, there is an option to download the Opensub.org subtitles that have been submitted by users.

In essence, you can pick a set that only includes the non-english subs, so as you mentioned, it'll be the aliens and ignore the english ones :)

It's installed by default when you have Plexaeon installed. Google "Preen skin installer" for the easiest way to get the skin in to Plex 9.

I think I've found the right way. Got a couple ripped, will watch them soon to test.

There's an option for 'foreign audio search' which tries to find a subtitle track that's only used for a small portion of the film, on the assumption that the foreign individuals in the film won't be there for most of it, and uses that. On ones I'm not sure about I've swapped to MKVs (usually use Mp4) and included all the sets I think might be right, because you can have more than one.

I'll definitely look into Plexaeon as well, thanks :)
