Hi all basically just need an answer to a small question.

I basically got the Gigabyte H55M-UDH2 and i got 2 pci express slots one being a 16x and the other a 4x. However, i just installed the Asus 570 direct cu ii [takes up 3 slots] and it doesnt exactly fit in the 16x slot as my sound card is there so i have currently got it in the 4x. Just wondering if it is bottlknecking me? or is the bottlekeck only when i go sli?

Will really appreciate any help! Thanks.

x4 speed could well bottleneck the card so you want it in the top x16 slot.

The bottom x16 slot only has the connections for x4 speed so that's all it will ever run at even if you don't have a card in the top slot.

If your sound card is PCI-E then put it in the bottom slot.

And I wouldn't worry about SLI, the motherboard doesn't support it.

Thanks for your help. I would have to move it in the 16 x slot and then sacrafice my sound card :( But that means at the moment im only getting 1/4 out of my card?

is this your motherboard: http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3503#ov

assuming your sound card is PCI you have these options:
1. non bottlenecked GTX 580, no sound card
2. bottlenecked GTX 580 + sound card
3. buy a PCI extender cable (~£10) for the sound card, and make something to
4. buy a double slot cooler for the GTX 580 (i dont know if the DirectCUII is a reference design, it will need to be for this to work)
hold it in place further down your case
5. get an external sound card and sell off your current one
6. get a PCIe sound card and put it in the x4 slot, then sell off the old card

No it doesn't mean you're getting a ¼ out of the card.

It means that you may be losing some of the performance of the card.

ye that is my mobo ! Thanks for all the help guys much appreicated. I think i am getting bottleknecked because my bro has a 560 ti and his getting the same fps as me on the same settings and im running on a overlocked 570 and we have the exact same pc. With the sound card it is not a pci express and i will have to leave it be for now, il rather get 100% performance from a £250 g card than a £20 sound card lool :)
