Just about to buy a 16plate VW Golf Match Edition 1.4tsi Auto with winterpack. 18500miles looks brand new. 1 year VW das Welt warrenty £13700.

Good buy?

I have a 2016 GT 150 ACT and other than clunking front suspension, a few rattles and a dim-witted DSG ‘box it’s a great commuting tool.

Seems a sensible purchase, but perhaps haggle for an extended warranty or something.

Clunky front suspension and a dim witted auto box doesn't sound like a great commuting tool haha :)
Apparently there's a recall out on the front suspension but haven't had the time to investigate deeper.
Not much you can do about the low-speed DSG lag unfortunately. Sport mode helps, but it's no match for a ZF :(

Anything else auto with a decent spec and some poke was either too old or more than I was willing to spend. Anyway, a Golf's a Golf. You know what you're going to get.

Golfs a golf, sensible... boring... see a million others on the road.

I would prob buy one of the other Vag group motors - prob a Superb if i wanted a big comfy commute motor.
Becuase a Superb isn't sensible and boring?

It's also significantly larger than a Golf, which can be pain if the commute is in town (like me). For me, one barge is enough (C6 A6).

Can get a dealer Audi with 2 years insurance for the same price but the car has done 44000miles...

Throw into the mix a 66 plate Qashqai N-connecta for same price.... I know its a different class of car but is it a better buy?
