Any help here appreciated please peeps, my wife wants her laptop connected up to the internet but i wouldnt have a clue where to start tbh. My computer is connected to Broadband through an ntl modem, what am i gonna need to set this up, want to do this all today go out buy the parts etc so dont have much time to search forums hence the quick thread, like i say any helpful info would be appreciated, oh we dont mind if its wireless or got leads what ever is the cheaper really :)

TIA

=GAMMO=

Only thing i worry about with wireless is living in the flat were wont others be able to tap into our connection? think im liking the cable purely for security reasons or am i worrying too much?

Just realised that the linksys wireless can be connected either by cable or wirelsess connection so no need to upgrade when we get a house in the near future just read your post properly and looked at the product itself. so if i go out and buy this will it have all the cables i need with it? thanx for sticking with this guys all confusing to me

and if the laptop which she is buying today is wireless that will pick up the router or cable so just an extra ethernet cable at most :) excellent! cheers peeps really grateful for your help just one last question whats the difference in these two> Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router/4-Port Switch (NW-000-LS) and the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G SpeedBooster Broadband Router/4-Port Switch (NW-006-LS) i use my computer for gaming most she will be maily surfing talking on messenger etc so i want the best but cheapest for my situation :)

ill go for the cheaper one of the two then cheers for all your help id better go before the shops shut ;) cheers again :)

Goto Network Connections, open the properties for Local Area Connection, then in the little scroll box, remove all the ticks from the protocols except Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). If you want/need to share files or printers, also tick File and Printer Sharing and Client for Microsoft Networks.

You might want to also set the connection to connect at 100M full duplex, by clicking on configure in the General tab of properties for the connection, then going to advanced on the network card's driver window, and then selecting the Link Speed/Duplex property and setting it to 100 Full.
done the first part no probs but couldnt find the second part linkspeed/duplex part :( cheers for your help so far :)

this is where i went> control panel> network connections> right click on local area connection then properties> unticked everything apart form internet protocol tcp/ip. and that is all under the general tab  is that the right bit?? this is not as easy as gamin lol sry

Ok followed that and this is what i got
