Hi there, I need to know if i can use telephone cable (single core) for networking computers?

I've setup it all up, and according to the network test kit - everything is wired correctly, but i cant get my mac to work on it?

So if anyone knows if telephone cable can be use please let me know.

yes rj-11.
why is a connection not possible on rj-11? and is there anyway around it - because all the cables are in the wall and i dont want to change it round. is there a converter i can use?

I assume by single core you mean 1 pair voice cable.

For ethernet you need a 4-pair twisted pair cable....mostly.

Even if you had 4 pair voice cable, I wouldn't use it for ethernet as that's not what it's designed for - it doesn't have twisted pairs to reduce EMI and crosstalk.

Voice cable for voice.
Cat5e, Cat6 & Fibre for data.

ah, well, trying to use a Mac eh...
maybe you didn't use Apple branded iPod white telephone cable at £50 a metre.

now PC's, they can work straight off with any old bit of string.
