I'm looking to get the following upgrades:

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply

Gigybyte GeForce GTX 460 1024MB DDR5 Dual DVI HDMI PCI Express - Retail - With Free HAWX2 Game

Also, a computer monitor of at least 22".

Will the power supply fit and is the graphics card a good one?

Just want to make sure I'm not making any mistakes.

My current power supply is the Octigen 400 watt.

Dimensions of my current PSU: Width 150mm Height 85mm length 140mm
Dimensions of the OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W: 15.0cm (W) x 16.0cm (D) x 8.6cm (H).

Thanks very much. x

yes and yes

although, you wont need a 700W just for running the gtx460

save some money and buy a 500-600W psu
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-035-CS
is a quality psu and it'll do just as well as the OCZ ;)

what case are you currently using?

also, what budget have you got for the monitor?

I don't know what case it is as I bought the computer off Ebay so I think it is a custom made PC.

Will it not be beneficial to go for the 700w? Just for future and it isn't a massive different in price.

My limit is £300 really for all three things I want so obviously I am very limited. I just want the cheapest 22" monitor really. I've seen a few for under £100 that will do.

I've checked pricing with another site and for a 22" screen, Gigabyte 1GB GeForce GTX460, and the OCZ ModXStream 700w. All of that, with delivery comes to £311.20 which is ideal. Seems the cheapest I can find for what I want.

Thanks for the reply.

The main things I want to check is that the PSU will fit. I'm rather sure the graphics card will. I checked dimensions myself and it is only 2cm longer in length which I have space for, and a mm higher which won't be a problem either. Correct me if I'm wrong with those judgements.

I've never replaced a PSU before either, but reviews say it is easy. It will be just knowing where to plug all the power cables and connectors back into.

:) thanks.

£64.90 for the OCZ on another site. Not sure I can mention the site so won't.

Seems pointless getting the one you gave me link to which is only a couple of quid cheaper and 600w.

Don't you think?? :)

I want to but the stuff within the next couple of hours so all the advice I can get would be brilliant.

I've been thinking about this for a few days and even though I'm not in a rush, it would be nice to upgrade my computer as soon as possible.

Now I have a bit of money to do I just want to get it done.

I'd love to buy the overclocked version of that graphics card, but I take it you can do this yourself?

I have never overclocked something, but if I do get it, maybe people would be able to take me through that. :)

Just to let you know, the price I get on here for what I want is: £334.97 including vat. That isn't with delivery either so looking at £10 on top of that too.

when you say just for the future what do you mean? do you mean SLI?

we can walk you through the OC process there will probably be a thread on here already.

Most likely will fit but depends really on what sort of case it is. How big is the gap in the case is for the PSU.

Yeah I have checked. Should be OK.

I am thinking the bigger watt in the power supply the better my computer will run.

Also, in case I upgrade my graphics card in the future again.

Most single graphics card PC's as above will require a maximum of 325-400W to run without overclocking or mild overclocks. Assuming you want to be at 60-70% of that to give a good performance, 600W should be fine. You should go for quality rather than advertised wattage. Overspecifying the PSU does not improve the performance of the computer. Look for surge, overload protection, solid capacitors, voltage regulation, quiet operation.

andy

OK. So is the OZU range of PSU good regardless of which wattage I go with?

thanks. :)

Well I've paid for it all now. :/

Hope it all turns out OK.

Went with PixMania as they were the cheapest and that is what it came down to as I have a budget.

I searched round and they had exactly what I wanted, but at a cheaper price than other places, including here.

:)
