My Hiper Type-R 580w went kapput today - dunno what happened, came back to an 'off' PC which had been happily downloading a printer driver from HP

So, I know that the PSU is well within warranty, I need to get a replacement quick as I don't have anything suitable at home......

As per Spec in sig, need a suitable (read: little better, perhaps ?) replacement - recommendations, please :-)

I hear nothing but praise for the Corsair PSU's.

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £87.99
(£103.39) £87.99
(£103.39)

Little pricey though.

As an alternative you could get this:

OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply £49.99
(£58.74) £49.99
(£58.74)

How much do you want to spend?

Nothing comes close to Seasonic and corsair but they come with a premium.

The OCZ seems very good value but I heard they are very noisy.

Probably the Enermax noisetaker 535W for £60 if you don't want to spend that much.

Or Etasis

Funny how they call it a "silent" PSU yet people say it's noisy :D

Saying that about the OCZ though, from past experience a PSU is not something I'd go cheap on again. Hence I paid about £130 ish for my ET850 (way more power then what I need) but it's future proof and a rock solid supply.

Well, I reckon about £100 is as far as I want (or need !) to go.....I also need to think about cabling as it will be going in my Antec P180.....long cables ideally !

I'd go with the Corsair 620W mate or the Seasonic 600W, they're modular so you can swap and change the cables to run longer/make them nice and tidy in your case.

So the Corsair for the win ?? Thinking I would go for the 620w anyway, for future-proofing....?

It will be more powerful but it won't be any more future proof. If you wanted that, the minimum you should be looking for is a psu with at least 1 8-pin pci-express cable.

The cheapest modular ones I can think of are the 650w silverstone decathlon, and the 650w enermax infiniti.

yea go for the corsair, i bought a 620w one but thats cuz it was on special offer for £70inc vat.

520w would be plenty for you, hopefully there should be a reduction in power with future tech so probably less need for a real high wattage unit. just depends on what you plan to get. although a test was run on here by TomNbk and a heavily loaded system with a 2900xt just about managed to suck up 400w of power from the mains. so a solid 450w psu is good for most people.

also note he had 400w mains power draw, take into account psu efficiency, his hiper probably getting around 75% efficiency so you then realise 400w from the mains = 25% less power sucked by pc itself.

also if your on a budget the coolermaster igreen psus are suposed to be very reliable and highly efficient.
