Did my first ever overclock, on my i5 750 yesterday to 4ghz. I used 1.4v, a bclk of 200Mhz, and a multiplier of 20. Everything is running stable, and i get max temp of around 55 degrees on my H50.
I have a MSI GD65, and had been using the OC genie function, which clocked it at 3.4Ghz, and @ 1.4v anyway.
I was just wondering if the voltage was maybe a bit high, because I've seen some of the sigs of people with i5s and theyre running it at 1.3v or less in some cases. Would a high voltage have any effect on the lifespan of my cpu/mobo?

I believe Intel says 1.4v is fine for sustained long temp use. It's the voltage that the Speed Step (or turbo mode or whatever it's called) will bump it too under load (when it's enabled obv.). It should be fine.

Great! Thanks, do u have any idea what a good memory ratio is? I had it set to auto, but kept crashing, think it might be to do with my 5870, got blue vertical lines, so i lowered the ratio...

Well its the geil ultra, shud go to 2133 i think, but wen i set the ratio to auto, which is like 4/5 i think, it crashed, so i have it at 3 for now.... I'll try it at 4 2moro.

Fully stable at 1.4v is good! Mine failed IBT at 4ghz at that voltage and I didn't want to go any higher. At the moment I'm doing 3.8ghz on 1.3v which is perfect :)

I've settled for 3.8GHz on 1.287 for now. I think I got 4GHz stable but I have to use quite a bit more vcore and it get's a good few degrees hotter. In any gaming benchmarks there was no/very little improvement. I'l probably stay at 3.8 untill I get a new graphics card and then see what kind of difference I'm losing out on.

Im pretty sure I could push it higher, maybe 4.2+, but just because ive never ever done this before, i was kinda worried about the lifespan...
I dunno what it is, the amazing DR MOS MOSfet setup on the GD65, the H50, or even just getting a good chip, but this thing is overclocking like a dream!

Also has the GD65 been discontinued from OCUK?
