For tea I had a Balti Chicken curry and Naan

That cost £2.75 to buy, local curry house for same would be about £7 with coke would have been £3.75
 
I need to learn how to make a real curry, still tasted great for a jar curry, the Pataks Balti was on offer at Asda for £1 normally about £1.80
 
does look nice. although im not a big fan of the jar curries, i know they arnt bad, but they never beat a home made one.

Really only £2.75. usually the chicken costs me more than that to buy.

Learn how to make one from scratch, far better than any jar sauce. Pretty sure there's a few recipes listed down in the food sub forum.,
 
Some of these threads are really odd. Why would you goto the effort of photographing and posting chronicles of your making a jar curry?
 
Looks quite nice, although the thought of carrots in curry does make my stomach turn a bit. :)

As NeverWinter said, making one from scratch will produce better results, but sometimes there just isn't enough time for that.

I am master at making south asian currys. Although currys themselves come in variety they all include various spices which I don't really see in OP pics:cool:

If it is chicken curry, this is known as 'murgh masala' or 'murgh shorba' in the indo/pak language.
 
You should check the ingredients and nutritional info. There is a lot of sugars and i cant remember but maybe also lactic acid in the Lloyd Grossman stuff.

the Geetas curry sauce has at least half the amount of sugars and no lactic acid in it...and it tastes very good too.
 
Balti really doesn't take long from scratch and it's not expensive, I've posted a recipe on OcUK for it a few times. The main cost is chicken, onions and tomatoes. The flavour comes from cumin, cardamom, chilli and garlic.

If you have them ingredients you can make it from scratch.

This 100%. Tried every jar curry that Tesco online offered and every single one was utter crap.

The Pattaks Madras paste is very nice, also the Rogan Josh paste is also very good. I usually mix half a jar of paste in with 500g of chicken, 2 tins of plum tomatoes, 1 large onion, 1 large red pepper and also add a bit of garlic.

I have also made lots of different curries from scratch and adding a bit of madras paste to the base makes them taste even better. It really is good stuff imo.

Some of us (or just me) that are a bit more hopeless in the kitchen actually appreciate it, better than getting a ready meal type thing.

yeah a curry made from scratch is nicer, healthier etc.etc.

but sometimes you want something quick and easy. so a Jar is appropriate. and yes i have them in my pantry too, and in my fridge i have ready made pasta sauce and packet tortellini.
