Hello :)

Little bro has just passed his test and is looking at gettin a car/insurance straight away.

Car is: 1998 CITROEN SAXO SX 3 Doors 1124cc Petrol Manual

Car will be parked in front of house on street. his DOB 22/02/88, he has a pass plus and would like the insurance to start as soon as possible. postcode NE5 4AN

Cheapest I've been able to find is £1447 TPFT from Quinn direct. That was using www.confused.com

A mate suggested Tesco but that came back as nigh on 3 grand.

Any suggestion or is that the best im gonna be able to find ?

Thanks in advance guys.

Christ. I never thought at 19 I'd be surprised how expensive someone else's insurance is!

I ran a few requests through using the online forms of the main groups, and it seems that £1,447 would be a good value quote :)

confused for many people seem to be really expensive. By getting quotes direct from the companies you'll usually get a much better price.

Check out the sticky here for a list of insurance companies and basically get as many quotes as possible. You can also play other insurance companies off against each other to get a better price.

unfortunately theres no quick way about it - unlike what confused.com will tell you :)

Just to put it into perspective i did a confused quote out of interest. Using the same details etc this is what i was quoted.

Direct to NUD = £980 (£320 excess)
NUD quote via confused = £1255 (£570 excess)

Was about to say try CIS, when I looked about for my 1st years insurance they were the cheapest by along way (some years ago). But I then put in the quote myself trying to provide the best details as possible.

£3300 odd!!!

So don't bother. How can insurance companies charge so much for a (no offence) nearly worthless car. I would love to see the actual statistics for 1st year drivers in relationship to the cost of damage they cause.

Your insuring the risk not the car, so the argument my car only cost £300 but the insurance is £2000 don't count.

Yes I understand that. But on Average will a 17 year old driver cause £3000 dmg dureing their first year? I can't see it. Hence I would love to know how they come up with this figure by seeing the statistics.

Personally I think that insurance companys seem to be skimming the cream as it were for young drivers so they can make a quick profit.

Granted the average one won't but the funds collected by 17 year olds don't just got on other 17 year olds crashes.

I expect the average crash someone hits someone else and they claim would run well over 6k (3k wiplash / legal fees / 1 - 2k car repair).

Its just one of those things, we have all been thought it at a young age, you're a big risk after passing your test and this is reflected in the premium.
