I'm about 2 months away from completing my first year of driving. Direct Line is my insurer.

In that time, I've been driving a little Corsa and I basically want to purchase a new car.

It was fine when I passed my test as I was mostly driving around town. I now drive frequently on the motorway and find it a pain in the backside. Overtaking takes forever. Also, I wouldn't fancy my chances in a 70MPH crash in one of them! Its also ruddy uncomfortable, small and does my back no good.

If I was to purchase a new car now, how would this affect my insurance? Currently paying £600 fully comp (paid up front). Would they simply work out the insurance of the new car for a year and pro rata the remaining 2 months?

Would I be tying myself into another year with Direct Line by changing cars now?

When the first year for insurance runs out, surely it's your decision to keep it going or not?

Do a quote for a chosen new car with a years no claims (if you have this) and see what it works out at.

decide what car you want, ring them up and ask them what it would be to swap the insurance over to 'x' car they will probably charge anyhere from 10-150 quid depending on insurance group, simple as that, doesnt affect your ncb

the mid term change only affects the remaining time in your years policy so it will only be for the next two months, as soon as thats up you can change company its basically the same as changing your adress etc ive changed my car three times on my previous policy cost me 89 the first time and 15 the second.

Make sure you check what they will charge before you buy a new car it may be worth waiting till the end of your current policy. I got a 1.6 Focus after my first car a 1.1 saxo got wrote off and I had 3 months left on the policy, they charged me an extra £500 I think ( on top of the £130 a month premium I had before [I got done I know :(])
