Hey chaps,

So I was mugged and had my iPhone 5 taken off me.

I have a new one coming in insurance tomorrow (brand new) and I was wondering what my best options are with regards to selling it and then buying out an iPhone 6 outright?

I see on the apple store that the iPhone 6 costs £619.

What am I looking at for a brand new 5 please?

This seems like the best option?

Bring your iPhone to any Apple Retail Store and we’ll give you immediate credit for its value toward the purchase of a new one

According to the Apple site, they will give me £110 for a brand spanking new iPhone 5 - that seems very low! The 6 will still cost me £509. Not worth it! I'll just hold out until the next model and buy on release.

The value of an iPhone 5 is pretty low now, and to be honest while it is noticeably slower it certainly isn't £400 slower. Keep the 5 and wait for the 6S.

If you sell privately you should get £180 to £200 depending on the storage size. I sell mine through gumtree which has worked well for me. Meet buyer somewhere safe only accept cash, I sold both mine from home no issues. Ebay eats too much in commission imho and things like iphones are easy to sell locally.

Keep the 5 and wait till the 6 drops once the 6S comes out. Unless you wan't to get a 6 on credit and pay it over 6/12 months then it might still be worth it as you can just sell the 5 as brand new make about 200/230 on it if you keep it sealed. Put that towards the credit and there shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the advice guys, all makes complete sense. I'll wait for the 6 to drop in price once the 6s is out and keep the 5 for now. Just to clarify, it's the 32g model.

Also yes, I had to pay £50 excess.

Hey guys,

quick question - new phone just turned up and I can't restore my backup from the icloud as the Ios isn't up to date.

As I right I need to start the phone up as new, update the ios and then manually restore it?
