Quick Iphone Unlocking question

I'll keep it simple.
I bought a used iphone4.
It's locked to orange/EE. I'm on o2.
The guy i bought it off has paid orange/ee and requested it be unlocked.

Will the phone now unlock when i connect it to itunes or does he have to connect it to his itunes account? Anyone done this before?

I'm pretty sure it should just unlock when it's connected to iTunes never mind who's account you use.
