Quick iPhone Warranty Question..

When one's iPhone is replaced under warranty, when does the replacements warranty expire?

And does any AppleCare purchased for the original get transferred over?

I'm about to register my launch day 3GS with AppleCare (so extend it from 18/06/2010 to 18/06/2011) but I'm going to be taking it into the store next week to hopefully get it replaced. So if the AppleCare doesn't get transferred over I might as-well get on with having it replaced and then register the AppleCare to the replacement.

If I remember right when I had my very first iPod the warranty transferred when I got a replacement due to a fault, but just call apple they will help.

Depending how much AppleCare is remaining it either carries over to the new phone (takes a couple of days to update on the system when you check the status) or you get 2 months warranty, whichever is longer.

If the iPhone you're replacing did not have an AppleCare purchased for it yet (e.g. you were going to purchase it the day before your 12months is over) can you then purchase AppleCare for the replacement iPhone with its 2 month warranty?

Not sure on taking AppleCare after a replacement, might be possible but check with Apple. You may aswell buy the AppleCare now, it extends the warranty to and extra year after the 1st year no matter when you purchase it.

I used to work as a Genius, so I know how this works.

Your original warranty from the first iPhone is moved over to the second. If the original iPhone had AppleCare, then the AppleCare is also moved over.

You are able to purchase AppleCare for your new iPhone, so long as the original warranty is still valid ie. it hasn't been a year since your purchased it.

If you replace your iPhone out of warranty, you will get 90 days limited coverage, but it is NOT possible to purchase AppleCare for an iPhone in this state.
