Hey,

Im buying an iPod Classic (from UK) for a friends birthday. They Live in America.

Will it work ok? Will he lose any functionality re Software etc.

He'll need a plug adapter if you buy a UK model, otherwise there isn't any real difference.
It may be cheaper to see if you can order it from the US apple store for delivery there?
 
Yeah, it will work fine. You wont need a plug adapter as they don't come with mains chargers like the old gens.

Only thing to note is that it's cheaper to buy in the US and the US ones don't have a volume cap like the EU ones.
