Hi All,

Just picked up a U2715H which was on offer and all seems good but there is some backlight leakage. Wanted to see if it was normal or faulty, seen there is some bleed in the same place on the tft central review (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/images/dell_u2715h/P1080102.JPG) but wanted to see what you all thought and whether I keep it or get my money back (can't get a replacement unfortunately it was the last one but was like £130 off).

Pictures here (Captured from video to try and minimise IPS glow):

I would send it back. Little bleed is okay but I think it's a little too much. Camera usualy emphasis the actual bleed so I cant see how much exactly there is.

Although you have to consider keeping it as you said you got it 130 pounds cheaper so the question is are you going to be okay with this amount of bleed? If not send it back. I never tolerated any bleed but little is acceptable. TBH it's up to you

Are you kidding? The quality of the img is so horrible you don't even see the halo but the "squares" (can't even say pixels) and it's not a bump of yellow light but a very slight difference in background uniformity.

Seriously if you think that is backlight bleed you have no idea of what it is and according to those image the monitor is close to perfect.

Thanks guys, sorry the pictures weren't great, used my iphone as I didn't have a decent camera to hand, and used video to minimise the IPS glow effect which occurs when trying to take regular photos with the phone. Thought it would be ok as the TFT central pic didnt seem that great a quality pic either (one of the reasons I was having a hard time judging whether mine was faulty or the norm).

I've done a bit of googling but think my google-fu is weak in this case, what would be the best way to picture the monitor in the dark with a black screen and not just get Glow showing all over the place?

My Dell has about the same amount of IPS glow and it doesn't really bother me that much I think if you got £130 off the screen you got a bargain. I would keep it, but that's just my opinion. :)

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the help. It was a great deal and the picture is great so I think I'll keep it ;)

Think I may have just been a bit oversensitive as I've had issues with Gsync IPS screens lately, went through 5 Acer XB270HUs and still seen issues persisting with the Asus PG279Q (not quite as much but still lots of similar problems based on peoples experiences e.g. on overlock.net). Even the new Dell TN has been seen with dirt under the screen with the AUO panel.

Thought I would get a better screen that was much cheaper for now at least to get me through to next year when hopefully another panel manufacturer will do an IPS with these specs (maybe LG/Samsung?) and Asus/Dell or someone bring one out with less of the issues plaguing them so far. Was a real shame as you would have thought for the money charged and the paper specs you'd have something with less problems!

Thanks again though all really appreciate it.

A reflex with tripod with a diffused light (possibly natural) not incident on the screen. Anyway, why don't you calibrate it, set the brightness and contrast you like according to your daily use, try it a bit and see if you notice it?
