Do imported games from the likes of Play Asia come with english menus? or the option for english menus etc?

Japanese games will come with Japanese menus about 95% of the time. Again Play-asia state it on their compatibility list. The few ones that support English will be English as you boot it up (assuming your Xbox 360 is set to English too).

The Chinese games on the other hand are full English. The only Jap game I've got is Senko no Ronde and the Japanese is limited to the character voices, subtitles and saving prompts.

I don't know why, but a Jap 360 is really appealing to me. I could have ordered one a few weeks ago, but was told it was a 'waste of money'. :(

Why couldn't they just leave every console region free  surely it wouldn't cost them a penny.

World economics varies such that this would cause them problems. If everyone imported at a reduced cost there would almost certainly be a loss.

Although i agree it would be great. Most of it comes down to TV standards anyway i believe. PAL/NTSC/NTSC-j etc, so the actual output is different.

I think the actual consoles are, so its upto the game developers if they implement any region lockout on the games.

The 360 is completely region free AFAIK. Its the publishers that add the region coding to the game. But unlike previous gen consoles, they are not "forced" to use it.

PS2, xbox and the cube on the other hand all had region locks.
