Quick Laptop Advice.

Getting laptop for sister for christmas she is only 11 so no graphic intense stuff just basic browsing and simple applications. not really any games.
so i was thinking.

Toshiba L300-11V (£340ish)
or
Dell Inspiron 1525 (£360ish)

any advice please thanks, is the Athlon better than the celeron?

There's not a lot in it really, I think the Dell would just edge it for me because they are such a big company that I feel the online support is slightly better, e.g. availability of help documents and software downloads.

Another vote for a Dell,got 2 in the house bought a Amilo for my neice a while back and while it was ok did not have the same feel quality as a Dell
(In fact Went to upgrade the Amilo with extra mem soon as it arrived and could not get the screw out of the mem cover,ended up cutting around the screw with a stanley knife:eek: just to install,on a brand new lappy)
Glad it never needed to be returned under warrenty:D
 
Ok, so the dell gets the Vote. suprised me there as i did think most would avoid the celeron because i heard bad things about them (unless they have improved) but then again i dont know to much about AMD's. hence me asking.
Ok al take a closer look into the dell.

But seriously the stuff kids get now, if i had asked for a lappy at her age the answer i would have got "**** O**"

Not only that, the laptop is for her school work apparently so she is getting a ipod too and as am her gadget brother seems better for her to have a touch for £50 more than the new nano.

laptop and a touch for christmas... did i mention the new phone aswell!
pffft mean while am in uni sweating (beer) and get a lump of coal....

Spoilt comes to mind !

I recently bought an Inspiron 1525 and opted to double the memory from 2GB to 4GB. This is an excellent "bang for buck" performance enhancement, and means the computer will switch on really fast, which is great if you're impatient like me. If you can stretch the budget I would seriously consider it.

cheers i will give it a mention (not me paying). i presume it can be ordered with 4gb by dell and is not an upgrade once bought.

how much more we looking at... will have a nose now.

Well Dell charge £58 for an extra 2 GB of mem so i would say get the extra from OCUK for about £25 save yourself £25 ish this way
Also if you decide to do this wait till you get the lappy in your hands to see how many sticks are installed,might be 1x2gb or probably 2x1gb :)

When you order a laptop from the Dell website there is now a step by step ordering process that will prompt you as to whether you want a memory upgrade. I estimate it would be around £40.
