Quick mac newbie question

Quick mac question - Forward key broken?

I switched from a PC to a mac (macbook) this summer so i don't know if this is normal or is a fault, but it has been annoying me for a while.

When i am typing text, i can only move the cursor backward through the text using arrow keys, but not forward. The forward key does work, as pressing alt+forward scrolls forward to the end of words as it is supposed to. Seems a bit pointless if it has been done for a reason although i'm probably wrong.

Something weird there. You can go both directions character by character using the arrow keys.

weird...what programs does it occur in?

just tried it now on my ibook, works fine

Erm all situations where text is typed: firefox, msn, text edit, even when i try to rename a file in the finder.
