Quick Mario Question

I'm writing something about Mario. Problem is I've never played the games:


What are the main, 'classic' bad guys in the series? I'm not talking about the bosses, I'm talking about the hundreds of baddies that Mario has to kill to get through the levels.


Or are they different in every game?

Edit: i didnt think they were people who had played games and never played a mario game before

Well I've played it VERY briefly but can't remember it much beyond a lot of jumping. Never been into platformers tbh.
