Quick maths question

Hello,

Can someone help me with how to work out percentages on a calculator please? I know how to take a % from an amount, but I don't know how you work out a base figure if you know the amount WITH the discount.

For example, what is the price with 0% off if the price with 35% off is 260
(In this example I know the answer is 400, but what do you type in the calculator to work this out, assuming you have no idea it is 400, all you have is 260 and that this amoount is 35% off the base price)

You do (260 / 65) * 100

So its ( <known number> / <percentage of original number> )* 100

Well as it's 35% off then 260 should be seen as 65% (100%-35%). So to find 100% you need to find what 1% is so that you can mulitply that by 100:

260/65 = 4 = 1%
4*100 = 400

Divide by the % to get 1%, then x100.

You beat me to it lol.

The way I remember how to do it is "Find what 1% is first" which is always your amount divided by what % you have.

1% of 400 would be - 400 / 100

with 260 we know we only have 65% not 100% as usual so we would just divide by 65 rather than 100.

As with everything to do with maths, the key is remembering how to do it 6 month later lol.
