I was transfered to max adsl today by plus.net for free...

Basically i had a 1MB service with them and on my first day my router is syncing at

Down 7200 kbps Up 448 kbps

Doing a few downloads I seem to be only getting 1MB speeds I.E around 130Kb/s as I was getting pre the new service....

Does that seem right? I know the sync rate etc will change over the next 10 days, but was maybe expecting a better download rate from fast servers?

I just did the BT speedtest and got the following back:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7200 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 837 kbps

Which suggests that my line should be getting possible download speeds of 800Kb/s?

But then the profile on my line is 1MB can someone explain what that means? Is the service been capped somewhere? Anyone got a couple of mins to explain, I would be gratefull...

There's your problem. You need to wait for the profile to change (at most, it should be 3 days).

Yeah, 800kbps, where the b stands for bits.

Ok thats cool... Kinda what I was hoping...
Another quick question if anyone can answer....If I find that the profile rate seems low...And SNR etc are not very good, can I retrain the line again say if I got new microfilters and cableing etc? Is it something I would need to request or would if automatically update any changes, I.e is the learning of best speed an ongoing thing, and the 10 days is just before is settles?

One last query about microfilters...

Currently the master socket to the house is downstairs, there is a 2 way splttter plugged into it. one side of the splitter has a microfilter on it and the downstairs phone is plugged into that to be filtered, the other side of the splitter goes upstairs to a socket. Another microfilter is plugged directly into this with the ADSL running off the ADSL side of the microfilter and another phone extension and 2 phones running off the Phone side, so everything is filtered....

The filter upstairs should be ok filtering 2 phones over an extension shouldnt it?

The main question is...using a splitter like this on the master socket is that a bad idea? can you get high quality ones at all?

Thinking of changing the microfilters from generics to XF-1e ones....

Any advice appreciated , suggestions also

Would it be worth putting the microfilter directly into the master socket, splitting the Phone side to run the main phone and the exisiting extension JUST for phones....

And then run another cable from the ADSL side of the filter upstairs, something like Belkin High Speed Internet Modem Cable RJ11 Male to RJ11 Male 7.5m?

Thanks
