was just wondering, can it do much outside of MCE ?

like move the mouse etc etc

as my current ATI remote is able to do that but can't do a lot more :p

oh and can it control my TV and AMP and if so to what extent ?

Thanks

AFAIK it doesn't do anything outside of MCE (although I think it might control WMP as well). As for controlling other devices, the power & volume buttons are reprogrammable. All the other buttons cannot be reprogrammed in this way, so it's a bit limited in that respect.

I've used it with a few things. The left/right/up/down arrows work like their counterparts on the keyboard, and the ok button works like Enter. So it'll move round the start menu, flick through powerpoint presentations, OK in acrobat skips to the next page - to name only a few i've used it for.

As above, only Volume & Power are reprogrammable for the amp, but that's about all you need.

The MCE keyboard has a mouse function, maybe look into that, its definately a must have if your serious about setting up a good MCE machine.

the remote of the keyboard.

guess i could get the remote now and invest in the keyboard later. just nice to control windows outside of mce.

heard the moue pointer on the keyboard is very ghey

As far as I can see, controlling the mouse from a distance isn't really much use. To be close enough to see what's going on and read all the small text, you're probably close enough to use the mouse anyway.

If you're far away, you'll need to use MCE's '10ft UI' to be able to read what's going on.

Unless you're using a Projector or other massive screen, that is.

The MS remote can control other applications, it does work for Winamp so should work for other applications (it does act as cursor keys). I guess you could use Girder to customize it, but it looks to confusing.

You'll probably have a decent learning remote anyway so once the codes are learnt into the learning remote the MS remote will be put away.
