I have a pre-santa rosa MBP 2.3Ghz that currently has 2Gb of ram in it. (2x 1Gb).

My sister has a pre-santa rosa MB Black that has 1Gb of ram in it (2x 512 I believe).

If I was to buy this:

Could I use one of the 2Gb sticks in my MBP with one of my existing 1Gb sticks to give me the max total of 3Gb supported by my laptop and then put one of my spare 1Gb sticks into my sisters MacBook to give her a little bit more ram?

Just also wanted to check as I read somwhere that not using dual channel memory in the MB would make it a fair bit slower, is that the case?

it should work alright, but yes you will have a minor performance hit from not running in dual channel, but i doubt its overly notice able.

Would that affect my MBP too?

I'm not that bothered about it on my sisters laptop as she doesn't really do anything intensive with it however I use my MBP as a mobile recording system and also do a reasonable amount of editing on it. Just want to be sure that the benefit of getting an extra 1Gb of ram are not being outdone by the hit from not running in dual channel.

Thanks for the help so far :)

4GB for <£100 if you're running majorly intensive apps.

The 667MHz is more a limitation than the dual-channel though, considering the MBP supports 800MHz RAM.
