Hey guys, gf's cars failed its MOT late March, tax was due so we declared it SORN and got the work progressively done over the enxt 3 weeks, now I'm just curious about the re-test, I know if it is within 10 working days of the failure you have to take it back to the same test centre, but if that time has passed and it has been SORN for ~1 month, can it be tested anywhere? Or does it still need to be at the place it failed at?

Thanks!

Get it tested anywhere.

The only reason for taking it back to the previous test centre is if it's within the time frame they don't have to do a complete retest they just check remedial work.

Yup take it anywhere you like. Even within the 10 days you could have taken it anywhere you like, although it would have been a full test, may have failed on something else and would have cost another full fee. ;)
The only reason to get it done within the 10 days and at the same garage is usually the retest is free.

Ok, thanks, the main reason I'd like to take it elsewhere is there was a lot of subframe rot, this has been legitimately repaired, welded back up & undersealed, but don't want this place thinking we just bodged it & painted the udnerside all black! But £700 later the old girl should be good to go, failed a few emissions tests but have had the Lambda tweaked and the only thing not changed was the CAT, with the specialist stating its worth leaving it, if it passes, great, if not, get it redone and the free retest on that part!

Cheers for clarifying it all, though :)
